Dr. Bilal Anwer's path to Interventional Radiology began with an engineering mindset. His undergraduate training in Electrical Engineering at the University of Minnesota gave him a systems-level approach to problem solving that carries through every procedure he performs today. After completing medical school, a General Surgery internship at Mount Sinai Hospital, and a Diagnostic Radiology residency in Houston, he went on to complete his Fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Stanford Medicine, one of the most respected training programmes in the world.
He returned to Houston with a singular focus: bringing minimally invasive, image-guided treatments to patients who had been told surgery was their only option. As a former Chief of Interventional Radiology, Dr. Anwer has overseen complex cases, collaborated with multidisciplinary hospital teams, and built a practice centred on precision, compassion, and results.
His dual board certification in both Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology is an important distinction. It means Dr. Anwer personally reads and interprets the imaging that informs his treatment decisions, adding a layer of diagnostic depth that many interventionalists do not have. That combination of skills allows him to identify root causes of pain that are frequently missed elsewhere.

Why minimally invasive?
My commitment to ethical and compassionate care drives everything I do. I believe patients deserve comprehensive solutions that prioritise relief and recovery over unnecessary procedures. In my previous role as Chief of Interventional Radiology, I worked closely with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary teams across complex cases. That experience shaped how I see every patient: as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. Interventional Radiology allows me to treat conditions that patients have often been told require major surgery, through a pinhole incision, under imaging guidance, with recovery measured in hours rather than weeks.
