Yes. Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE) is a proven, minimally invasive procedure that reduces chronic knee pain caused by arthritis without surgery, hospital stays, or lengthy recovery. Most patients return to normal activity within 24 to 48 hours. Dr. Anwer performs GAE as an outpatient procedure at our Houston-area clinics.
No referral is required. You can book directly through our Healow patient portal or by calling either of our Houston-area clinic locations. If your insurance plan requires a referral, our team will guide you through that process before your visit.
Interventional radiology uses image guidance, such as ultrasound or X-ray, to perform procedures through a tiny pinhole incision rather than open surgery. There is no general anaesthesia, no large incisions, and recovery is typically measured in hours rather than weeks. Dr. Anwer is Stanford Fellowship trained in interventional radiology and uses this approach for all vascular and joint treatments at LPVI.
Most patients treated at Leg Pain and Vascular Institute return to light activity the same day or the following morning. Procedures such as GAE for knee arthritis, varicose vein treatment, and hemorrhoid artery embolization are all outpatient with a typical recovery of 24 to 48 hours. More complex procedures such as uterine fibroid embolization may involve one to two weeks of reduced activity.
Varicose vein treatment is covered by most major insurance plans when the condition causes symptoms such as pain, swelling, or skin changes, and conservative treatments have been tried first.
