"The Leg Pain Clinic is amazing!! I walked out with less pain than I walked in with! Dr. Anwar is amazing and I love his bedside manner!! I didn't want another knee replacement surgery and now I don't have to get one!!"
You've already paid your deductible. Now use it.
Nerve pain, knee and hip arthritis, aching or swollen legs — treated without surgery. If you met your deductible this year, your plan covers more now than it will on January 2.
You may have more than one of these.
Nerve pain, joint arthritis and vein disease often trace back to the same circulation problem, which is why patients rarely have just one. Read all three, not only the reason you came here.
Every condition below is treated by Dr. Anwer without surgery, as a same-day outpatient procedure, and is covered by most major plans when medically necessary. If you have already met your deductible this year, your plan is paying its largest share right now, and that resets on January 1. Whatever you have been putting off, this is the part of the year it costs you least to deal with.
Peripheral Neuropathy
Burning, tingling or numb feet are often treated as a nerve problem alone. In many patients there is a circulation component that standard neurological care does not address. Dr. Anwer looks for the vascular cause and treats it with image-guided techniques.
- Burning, tingling or numbness in the feet, worse at night
- Feet that feel cold, or that you cannot feel properly underfoot
- Balance that has quietly become less reliable
- Symptoms put down to diabetes or age, with no circulation check
Knee Arthritis
Pain, stiffness or grinding that is worse on stairs and after sitting. Genicular Artery Embolization reduces the inflammation driving the pain, without joint replacement.
Hip Arthritis & Bursitis
Deep hip or groin pain that limits walking, standing and sleeping. Image-guided embolization targets the inflamed vessels feeding the joint.
Hand Arthritis
Aching, weakness or loss of grip that makes jars, keys and buttons difficult. Treated through a pinhole in the wrist, with no surgery and no cast.
Shoulder Pain & Frozen Shoulder
Stiffness or pain that stops the arm lifting fully, often worse at night. Embolization reduces chronic joint inflammation without general anesthesia.
Tennis & Golfer's Elbow
Persistent pain on the outside or inside of the elbow that has not settled with rest, bracing or injections. Treated as a same-day outpatient procedure.
Plantar Fasciitis
Heel or arch pain that is sharpest on the first steps of the morning. Image-guided embolization targets the inflammation at the source.
Varicose Veins & Venous Disease
Bulging or twisted veins, legs that ache, swell or feel heavy by evening. Dr. Anwer treats the underlying venous insufficiency, not just the veins you can see.
Chronic Deep Venous Thrombosis
Ongoing swelling, heaviness and aching after a known or suspected clot. Catheter-directed treatment restores normal flow without open surgery.
Arterial Disease (PAD)
Cramping or tightness in the legs when walking that eases with rest. Image-guided angioplasty reopens narrowed arteries and restores blood flow.
If you recognized yourself in more than one, that is worth saying when you call. Dr. Anwer evaluates nerve, joint and vein circulation at the same visit, and if more than one condition is treatable you will know that day.
Treatment that is warranted for more than one condition is worth looking at together, while this year's benefits still apply. Every procedure is recommended on its own medical merits.
The deadline is earlier
than December 31
Being treated while this plan year still applies takes more lead time than most people expect. Here is what actually has to happen.
Consultation and imaging
Dr. Anwer reviews your history and reads your imaging himself to confirm what is treatable.
Week 1Benefits verified
Our team confirms your coverage and tells you where you stand before anything is scheduled.
Days 2–5Prior authorization
We submit and follow it through on your behalf. Some plans also require documented conservative therapy first.
1–6 weeksOutpatient procedure
Image-guided, through a pinhole, no general anesthesia. Home the same day, normal activity in 24 to 48 hours.
30–60 minutesAuthorization and scheduling are measured in weeks. If you want treatment to happen while this year's benefits still apply, the time to call is now, not December.
We check your plan before you commit to anything
Most major plans accepted at both Houston locations. Don't see yours? Call and we'll check.
Dr. Bilal Anwer
Vascular & Interventional Radiologist
Dr. Anwer completed his fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Stanford Medicine and is dual board-certified in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. He reads your imaging himself and performs your procedure himself. You will see the same physician at your consultation, on the day of your procedure, and at your follow-up, at one of two Houston-area offices, on a local number.
That is the reason to come here, and it is also the limit. There are a finite number of procedure dates between now and December 31, and they fill in the order people call.
No obligation.

Frequently asked questions
Your deductible is the amount you pay for covered care each plan year before your insurance begins paying its share. Once you have met it, your plan covers its contracted portion of further covered treatment, and if you have also reached your out-of-pocket maximum it may cover more. Most plan years end on December 31, and the deductible returns to zero on January 1 whether or not you used it. Nothing carries over. Our team can verify where you currently stand on your specific plan before you commit to anything.
In most cases yes, when the condition is causing symptoms such as pain, swelling, heaviness or skin changes rather than being purely cosmetic. Medicare, BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare and Humana are among the plans accepted at Leg Pain and Vascular Institute. Many plans also require a period of documented conservative therapy before they will authorize treatment, which is why starting earlier in the year matters. Call us and our team will verify your specific benefits and tell you what your plan requires.
Yes. Genicular Artery Embolization, or GAE, reduces the chronic inflammation causing knee arthritis pain without joint replacement surgery. Dr. Anwer performs it as an outpatient procedure through a pinhole incision, with no general anesthesia and no hospital admission. Most patients return to normal activity within 24 to 48 hours. Coverage varies by plan and by medical necessity, and our team verifies your benefits and handles prior authorization before your procedure is scheduled.
It depends on your plan and your condition, but it is longer than most people expect. After your consultation and imaging, your benefits are verified and prior authorization is submitted, and some plans require documented conservative therapy first. That process is measured in weeks, not days. If you are hoping to be treated while this plan year still applies, the practical time to call is now rather than December. Call 713-242-1139 and we will tell you honestly what is realistic for your situation.
For most plans, no. You can call Leg Pain and Vascular Institute directly and schedule a consultation at either our Cy-Fair office on FM 1960 or our Gulf Freeway office near Webster. If your specific plan does require a referral, our team will identify that when we verify your benefits and will guide you through it before your visit so nothing delays your care.
Yes. Before anything is scheduled, our team contacts your insurance directly, confirms what your plan covers for your specific condition, checks where you currently stand against your deductible, and submits prior authorization. You will be told your expected out-of-pocket before you commit to a procedure date. If the numbers do not work for you, nothing goes ahead. Call 713-242-1139 and we will start that check for you.
